CITY OF SYDNEY RELEASES NEW DRAFT GREENING FRAMEWORK

In September 2026, the City of Sydney released a new draft Community Greening Framework for comment – a suite of new and updated policy documents covering community gardens, footpath and laneway gardens and community greening volunteers.

The aim of the new framework and policies is to make participating in greening programs easier for the community, expand the City's support and provide clarity about requirements and responsibilities.

Most relevant to us were the draft Community gardens guidelines and the committee put together a submission on behalf of the garden, which is available here.

WHAT NEXT?

The plan is that the Community Greening team will go through all the feedback, and submit final draft guidelines to Council for approval, probably in March next year. We’ll keep you updated.

We are hugely grateful for the ongoing support and encouragement provided by the council and its staff. Our garden is one of 19 across the City of Sydney that benefit from the council’s extensive community greening programs.
